Pug Dog

The pug dog is a small, short-bodied dog with a rounded head, a short, wrinkled face, large eyes, and small ears; it has a short, smooth, soft coat and carries its tail curled tightly over the hip. The breed apparently originated in China and is related to the Pekingese. It probably reached Europe at least as early as the 1600s. The modern pug may be fawn or black ears. The desirable size for pugs is between 25 and 28 cm (10 and 11 in) high at the shoulder and from 6 to 8 kg (14 to 18 lb) in weight, making them the largest of the toy breeds.

The pug has a shortened muzzle and a tail that curls over its back. It is thought to be of Chinese origin. Introduced into Holland by traders during the 17th century, the pug was a fashionable pet in England during the 1880s and 90s.
