French Bulldog

The French buldog, smaller than the English buldog, is distinguished by its batlike ears. This corresponding breed reached its greatest popularity in the early 1900s.

French Bulldog is a small dog but massive breed, the body of this dog just about 30 cm (12 in) high at the shoulder but the weighing up to 13 kg (25 lb). It is low set and smooth coated, with a blunt, heavy head and relatively high, bat like ears.

The tail is naturally short, not docked. Coat colors are brindle, fawn, white with brindle patches, or solid white. The breed's exact origin in uncertain. The English claim that it originated from miniature English bulldogs brought to French about the middle of the 19th century. The French claim that the breed is an old native one. Although the breed probably did originate from small its preservation the result of efforts by American breeders. The French bulldog club of America was founded in 1898.
